NDTLA Members and other North Dakota Attorneys: The NDTLA-UND Homecoming Seminar in Grand Forks promises to be an exciting event. It will start on Thursday, September 27, 2007, with a meeting with the Student Trial Lawyers Association and the Awarding of the Vogel Scholarship. Thursday evening there will be a social with the Student Trial Lawyers. The group of young people who form the Student Trial Lawyers will rejuvenate your enthusiasm for the Future. Friday, September 28, 2007, will be the seminar which is focused on getting ready for trial; the nuts and bolts of what needs to be done when preparing for trial in different arenas. Click here to view and print a registration form along with the agenda. It contains the contact information for reserving rooms in Grand Forks and information on the football game on Saturday. Click here to read a brief biography of the presenters for the seminar, all of whom are experienced and respected for their work in North Dakota. In addition, the NDTLA will have a special meeting at noon on Friday September 28th to discuss and vote on changing the name of the NDTLA to the “North Dakota Association for Justice." As we near the date you will receive a notice of the special meeting and the specific by-law amendments that will make the change. Again, mark your calendars and join your fellow trial lawyers in Grand Forks for the fall seminar and homecoming celebration. Thanks. Alan Austad Executive Director |

The North Dakota Trial Lawyers Association website now has "Electronic Mailing Lists." What is an "electronic mailing list?" An electronic mailing list, a type of Internet forum, is a special usage of e-mail that allows for widespread distribution of information to many Internet users. It is similar to a traditional mailing list — a list of names and addresses — as might be kept by an organization for sending publications to its members or customers, but typically refers to four things: a list of e-mail addresses, the people ("subscribers") receiving mail at those addresses, the publications (e-mail messages) sent to those addresses, and a reflector, which is a single e-mail address that, when designated as the recipient of a message, will send a copy of that message to all of the subscribers.
Some people refer to them as "listservs," but listserv is a very specific trademarked "electronic mailing list" ("EML") software program. Our EML software is incredibly flexible and can handle as many different lists as our tech team wants it to have, with as many members of each EML as we want to allow. Right now we have just a few EMLs: a personal injury EML, a criminal defense EML, a general NDTLA membership EML, and a couple for the board of governors and executive committees. If you have a suggestion for a new list or lists, let us know. To gain access to the rules and instructions for NDTLA's electronic mailing lists, you'll need to be an NDTLA member in good standing and will need to register by clicking on "Register" in the "Login" box in the upper-right-hand corner of this website. Once you're registered and logged in, a new menu selection for "NDTLA EMail List" will show up in the "Main Menu" box to the left. |

The NDTLA.com website has a document repository. It is available only to NDTLA full members who are in good standing with the association. Members can register for this website (click on "register" in the "Login" box at the top of the right column) and then will be given access to upload and download documents to and from the document repository.
The document repository can host everything from memoranda, briefs, district court decisions to forms and other pleadings. There are very few documents in the document repository right now. The bank will be built up over time through member contributions and system adjustments. Member input is needed and appreciated. The document repository is only as good as the information provided with each new item uploaded. Please be as descriptive as possible so that when someone does a search for something contained in your document, they will get a meaningful result to their search. If you have any questions about the document repository, please contact the NDTLA executive director. |
